3D Animation For Games. How Important Is It?

Can you imagine if Assassins Creed was made with flat 2D animation? Let’s talk about what 3D animation did for the video game industry.

3d animation for games is important because when it comes to games without 3d animation, where would we be? If 3D animation for games didn’t exist then we would be playing old/new 2D games like Sonic, Mario, street fighters, etc. I’m not saying they’re bad but it would be weird if we only had 2D animation video games. If 3D animation for games didn’t exist then we wouldn’t have Assassins Creed, Rocket League, Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2, Dead By Daylight, etc. 3D animation games are the reason why a lot of people like video games and the main reason why the videogame industry has become a 60.4 Billion Dollar industry.

3D animation started in 1974. Some developers tried to experiment with the dimensions in Maze War players were allowed to move not only left and right but also forward and backward, and shoot in all four directions. After that other companies tried the same thing. We got games like Smash Bros 64, Sonic Blast, Mario 64, Lego video games, Call Of Duty. All of these games are the reason why other companies kept going and why some new companies tried it out. This is the reason why we have new games like Marvel vs Capcom Infinite, Red Dead Redemption, Call Of Duty Modern Warfare, ect. It’s also the reason why we are getting new 3D animated games. Ever since the first 3d animated game came out people loved 3d over 2d. It just makes the game look more realistic.

I am working on learning 3D animation to contribute to the field of video games. Character Animator is a specialist in character creation. They breathe life into characters, by giving moving images the illusion of thought, emotion and personality. This is created through gesture, facial expression and reaction, with animators sometimes using motion capture to replicate human movement. Character Animators can work on films, TV shows and video games, and require a strong understanding of acting and directing in order to create believable, empathetic characters. The gaming industry is employing the use of complex characters to connect with gamers and produce a more heightened experience. As the sophistication and demand for 3D animation increases so does the demand for good Character Animators. The characters and backgrounds are then modeled in three-dimensional forms using virtual rigs which are then textured to produce an outer layer. Their movements and trajectories are then inputted into the software as mathematical equations which are then rendered via a graphics processing unit which outputs the final animation.

After a bunch of research I have decided that I want to focus on character modeling because there are many ways for me to model a character. I’m also interested in character modeling because I’m interested in the human and animal bodies and what elements make up the body. You also have to make sure when you are modeling the character it’s not bigger than a house or smaller than a pebble. I like the idea of working at different scales.

I would like to work at Bandai Namco because I really like the games that they make but I mostly like the character designs they create. I have played many of their games like Dark Souls, Dragon Ball, Tekken 7, little hope, Super Smash Bros. etc. Bandai Namco revenue is around 678.3 Billion. That’s a lot of money. That tells me that they are a really good company. In fact, they are the 3rd largest video game company in Japan and even if they are #15 in america I think they are amazing.

Follow me to follow my journey as I work towards working for my dream company.
